Last winter, south Louisiana received snow. I had 2 inches in my yard. We hadn’t seen snow accumulation like that in 35 years. We are having our first real cold snap right now and it brought to mind our one snow day.

Fall officially started this week…not that it feels like it…but at least there is the promise of cooler days ahead. In honor of fall and it’s impending relief from the hot humid days of summer, I dug back to post this picture, I took in fall 2007. I snapped on my way home one evening.

Blue jay

One morning, while sitting on my front porch, I watched these blue jays flying in and out of a tree across the street. I caught this one as he stopped to perch on a branch, singing out a song to his friend.

Pollination

Couple of years ago, I had zinnias planted which attracted butterflies and bees. I was able to capture this bee in the pollination process.

Lil’ Calf

One afternoon, while riding down a gravel road, this little calf seemed to stop and pose. It was another one of those lazy shots, where i just rolled down the window and snapped off a quick click before he ran away. This was one of my earlier photos when I was just getting into digital.

Touchdown in Baton Rouge

On a return trip from Oregon last summer, my flight got rerouted for a landing in Baton Rouge at midnight. After hours of being delayed and nearly having to sleep in the airport, I amused myself on the return trip by photographing the various lights below. As we landed this was the abstract shot I caught.

One fall day, while driving down a country road near my home, this scene grabbed my attention. I stopped in the middle of the road, rolled down the window and without even getting out of my truck, snapped this photo quicker than it took for me to type this. I always loved this picture because the colors remind me of a painting.
